Queen Anne Ball

ball invitationthe Queen Anne Ball kicked-off the year-long celebration of the 300th anniversary of the granting of Annapolis’ Royal Charter.

As the vanguard of the idea that democracy should flourish in the colonies, the Royal Charter was granted on December 8, 1708, giving democracy and its system of governance to the city of Annapolis.

buy tickets to the ballIn recognition of this historic event, a festive ball in honor of Queen Anne was held.

The Loews Annapolis Hotel was transformed into a castle where guests were greeted by Queen Anne. Herald trumpets filled the air, town criers announced all guests as they arrived, and knights and their ladies, entertainers, and the Queen’s court attended to loyal subjects as they drank, dined - about the menu - and danced to the sounds of Radio City. There also was a silent art auction featuring works by over 50 area artists. Featured items included paintings, photographs, illustrations and pottery.

Proceeds from this once-in-a-lifetime gala will fund celebratory and cultural Annapolis Alive! events throughout the year.

Attire was black tie or festive colonial costume.

Many guests availed themselves of the services of ASI photos who were at the Queen Anne Ball to take formal and candid pictures of guests to commemorate the momentous occasion. A portion of the picture proceeds will benefit the exciting year of Annapolis Alive! events.
