Annapolis Alive! News - July 2, 2008
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Celebrate the birthday of the United States of America on the 232nd anniversary of the day the Declaration of Independence was signed with a red, white and blue day in Annapolis!
First, the William Paca House will host a ceremony of naturalization for 50 new American citizens. This will be a moving ceremony at the home of one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.
Then the William Paca House and Garden opens free to all for its own Independence Day celebration featuring historical reenactors and fun for all ages.
At 6:30 p.m., the Annapolis 4th of July Parade will step off, with 42 units winding their way from Amos Garrett Boulevard to the Market House in a display of patriotic and city pride. Sgt. Chris Ritter, an Army Special Forces three-tour Iraq war veteran will serve as Grand Marshall representing all service men and women currently serving our country.
The parade will be followed by a concert by the US Naval Academy Band's Electric Brigade, on city Dock at Susan C. Campbell Park, at 8 p.m. Rumor has it that the Electric Brigade will offer up a rock version of the 1812 Overture!
And then, fireworks! The fireworks will be shot from a barge in the harbor and will begin at approximately 9:15 p.m.
There are many more details about the Independence Day celebration, including street closures, boating restrictions, and more, on our website, annapolisalive.org.
Enjoy, and celebrate our history, our present, and our future.
Have a wonderful 4th of July weekend!
